Flatheads Save the Day for Dave

If you fish the Susquehanna River then you are probably as frustrated as the rest of us with the terrible conditions this year. This has been a crazy spring and it just won’t let up. Dave reports that there has been more rain and, high water, muddy water and just overall screwed up conditions then he has ever been able to remember. The water temperature is just now breaking into the 50’s and finally clearing. The fish have been way up on the bank holding in tress and brush that are not normally under water. As the water drops they continue to move down. Here and there we get a couple days where conditions improve enough to do some damage on the bass and walleye,

Jerry’s Striper and Largemouth Report

STRIPERS: The action on the flats has been slow due to low water temps. Most of the fish are being taken on live or cut herring. The best area is off the red bouy by the barge anchorage. Also go up river near Port Deposit and cast large plugs (Rapala SSR-14 and Bunka Boy) in the eddy’s behind the rocks.  This area is producing fish over 40 lbs. Also work 7″ plastics on 1/2 or 3/4 oz. jig heads, hopping them off the bottom and you”ll find that is working as well. We have found that the shad patterns are woking best. Largemouth Bass Report: This past Friday we fished the Susquehanna flats area and found fish on 5 to 8′ ledges and used the  Power

Susquehanna River on the Rise Again

Here we go again. The rain is a rainin’ and the river is a risin’. Levels at Harrisburg will crest at a little over 10′ by Saturday and the weekend is not looking good. These levels are dangerous and should not be dealt with by anyone unless you are down in the pool areas and are a very experienced boater. The water will be muddy as well so any fishing will be very tough. Maybe it is time to do a little trout fishing, but those areas are probably chocolate milk as well. I just got done reading Dave’s fishing report and I agree Dave, this crazy back and forth with the weather is not making things any easier. When you have a nice day

A surprising week on the Susquehanna

I have been reading some of Dave’s reports for this week and thought I would share with you some of what I am hearing. The Susquehanna River started a major rise this week due mostly to snow melt up north. We had some area rain, but that really wasn’t the reason.  The week started off with river levels around 6′ at Harrisburg and at the moment the levels are in the 10′ range, so that was quite a jump.  In any case you need to pick your areas carefully and only the most experienced boaters should even mess with levels that high unless you are down in the pools where the current is much easier to manage. Dave Shindler from Jst Fishin’ Guide Service reports

Former FLW Pro can be your Guide

Its one thing to have a great guide to take you fishing, but you add a whole other dimension when that guide is also a Professional Bass Fisherman who has competed in the FLW. That is what you’ll get with Pete Gluszek, a highly respected bass pro, who along with Mike Iaconelli founded the Bass University. Pete has had (and still does) some very successful years tournament fishing, but the high lite of his career came while fishing the FLW circuit when he won a tournament at Lake Champlain. Pete is also a great seminar speaker and when guiding he really focuses on the instructional aspect of fishing. In fact he prefers to call his guided trips “on water training”. No matter what level you
